In between projects, whipped up this little number. Was for a contest for "Why I deserve a vacation!" But Apparently it's either too good, too unusual, or the mods didn't like the "scary" situation of the picture. Oh well. I liked the composition and movement.

It was amusing either way.

Hello, blog!

It's summer. Things are incredibly busy. Above is one of the place cards I did for my recent wedding. It was a fantastic challenge to do. I wish I had more time to do things likes this! I wanted to experiment with texture and color.

Hopefully an art dump eventually? Maybe? I don't know. Currently with work, I can't divulge what I do there, and it really does take all of my time. Maybe once it's all released, I can talk more and happily point it out. No guarantees.

I need to take photos of my Robin Eggs character designs. They were all over this 2011. It was pretty exciting seeing them replace the old robin.

Happy little guys, aren't they?

Recently contributed to a public radio podcast about life after getting the BFA. A little nervous. No names, very general, and "I love what I do." Only hope I came across clearly, and curious to hearing more discussions about outsourcing. I'm always interested in hearing more sides of the debate.

Girl

Experimenting with no-lines in a design. Nothing much else going on that I can divulge in, currently. Working two jobs involving art, and both have a lot of potential to be huge. "Details" after it's released. -Typical of anything in the art fields.

New art.

It's been a heck of a year! I have so much to share and so much to talk about, so in the meantime, have some new work that's out and about.

First, have some art that's been out this Holiday season. While working for a pretty rad package design firm, I did some character designs a while back. They're finally creeping out again! Here's a Santa I drew for them, colored by one of the team. He was even molded on the chocolate! Ah! Very cool......

And lately, I've been becoming entertained by Reddit. I had a huge kick to do some drawings in some different styles. The results below.

New Little something

Figured I would share my lateset little something I drew earlier over the summer through my former employer/freelance client.

Just a quick little thing for the Local rescue league, sketches done by me, and illustrator work is done by another person. I've included a watermarked copy of the original sketch.

I think my pencils were cute.

Somehow...

Somehow I keep forgetting to post on here. I guess you can call it life?

But anyhow, my Easter stuff for Hershey finally appeared in April! Take a look:

And detail, I didn't ask for him to be white with blush, but c'est la vie, right?

And recently thanks to a dear friend's suggestion, and a prank gift, I've boarded the Etsy train! It's an absolutely amazing community. I honestly love it. I swear, if I had more money, I would be in so much trouble. But please have a look at the shop! I'm still working on it, but it'd be appreciated if you had a look! :)

Keep on Keeping on

So I have been keeping busy. As said, above are some purses I made around this time last year. I have to make a tutorial on how to do these puppies for anyone else interested.

Unfortunately, due to the economy, I've picked up part time jobs like any dutiful artist, and decided after hearing positive feedback from some places in CA, but at the same time, rejections, due to my location, to move to town and just "Take the leap."

As frustrating as it has been, I really don't blame anyone for choosing to hire locally. There's so many talents in California that it would be a waste of money and resources to hire from out of state. I do love the industry, but know it's the way things are. I'm willing to go for it.

....asides, I am not too fond of cooler weather.

So remember this image from last year?

Well someone in Brazil was inspired enough to make these little guys!

I mean, honestly! How cool is that? I was surprised earlier when they came from left field, but once everything was cleared up, it's all good. Because honestly it's a huge compliment and totally made my day! I wish I had known about them sooner!

The credit for the sculptures totally goes to Joedson Rosa http://joedsonrosa.blogspot.com/

So what do you think, everyone? Perhaps I should go into toy design and Joedson Rosa does the sculpting?

AND! To top it off as well, MaGiK World, the studio I had freelanced for last year, has recently won a "shared" Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program! HBO's "Classical Baby: Poetry Show" I think that's quite awesome. 8th Paragraph down.

http://cdn.emmys.tv/awards/2008pte/CTA08_wrap.php
The Outstanding Children’s Program was shared by two winners: HBO’s Classical Baby (I’m Grown Up Now): The Poetry Show and Nickelodeon’s Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: The Untouchable Kids Of India. This marked two Emmys in a row in this category for Nick News with Linda Ellerbee. Last year the series won for the episode titled “Private Worlds: Kids with Autism.”

A little something coming this August.

I tell you, there is nothing like a chocolate topped, white-cream (with real cream as the secret ingredient!) donut in the morning with coffee! Albiet sticky like crazy, and to be in the gym on an eliptical for 30 min to burn it off, but oh-so-good. :) Thank goodness the store isn't down the street! It's in around where my family used to live (and extended still do), so it's a good thing that they aren't nearby!
So as for this little piece of work below, as of right now, I am now currently working as the comic artist for the magazine, Gaku-X, a Japanese Rock/Pop Culture magazine written in English. I have the privilage to work on 4 pages a month, which I have therefore figured to turn into a little series paying an affectionate satire to the fan community that the magazine caters to. It focuses on a Japanese-American guy and his friends who are fangirls, or as some say "Japanophiles" or "weaboos." I've been to enough conventions to know. ...but am DYING to go to San Diego Comic-Con! I get jealous of anyone who gets to go. It just looks like so much fun.
Done in copic markers and color pencil.

And for more of your art fix, I still have yet to get the DVD of this film that I worked on, posted below. I think it turned out goregous, though I wish that I had the original voice track to work off of and time better. Note what I had to work with, and the end result.

"I Wish" is originally by Vera Brosgol, screenplay by Dalis Ponrattanasiri

Moving up and forward.

Goodness, I feel like a horrible person for neglecting my poor little blog! Things had been busy, but I am back on to moving forward towards bigger and better things. I've found I definitely do love and am happiest working in entertainment, whiether it's gaming, TV/Film, print or online. There's something there in the hours of work put in and the environment with that end result that is just SO satisfying. I can't really find a way to describe it, but it just makes me the happiest. Kind of like being in love, but not really. Cheesy? Yes. Happy in what I do and being a positive about it, oh heck yes!
And as of late, I am starting a comic that is in a new magazine, Gaku-X, entitled "Gaijin Rock" (Foreign Rock for you home gamers) that is an affectionate satire on the "Japanophelia" fandom. If you see it around, please let me know what you think! I'm quite excited about it. The first page I submitted I was surprised made it to the magazine since it was done in so little time (and not to my standards. Eek! I feel naked!) But the August 2008 issue, I promise will be much better.
So the art here, is one of a commission from last year, and another from a test I drew extra bunnies for at a graphic design firm which shall not be named. For privacy reasons.
But for now I have printouts to make and turnarounds to do in Flash!

Queen of Hearts

Newest piece. I actually drew it while watching "Transformers" on DVD. I don't have much of an opinion on the movie, but I'll leave that as it is.

But as for the drawing, felt like working with color some more, and working with a more distinguished looking character. The background colorwise works though I think it could use a ruler.

I Wish

Here's a pencil test of the short animation in the film "I Wish" my friend is doing.

These are bird women. They kind of remind me of Harpies. But anyhow, the film is based off of one of the stories in the "Flight" books.

Mona Lisa

A long-awaited drawing for my friend, Lisa. I thought I'd be cute and draw her as the "Mona Lisa" but with a sari. I just recently bought myself some copic markers since my prismas are drying out, and sometimes I've bought a pack only to find that they're dry when I got them. Very disappointing. And cost-wise, it's better to have copic. (And I like the brush-tip, too) -But on a personal note for the future and anyone else: Don't use markers on Matboard. They suck up pigment like a sponge!

Currently I'm working on a small animation for a film called "I Wish" being done by a friend of mine. It's a student piece, but I sincerely think it has a lot of potential. I intend on sharing some snippets of the animation later since Blogger now has that awesome video posting option. :)

And my rubber hose pirates painting is finished as well now. I just need to frame it and get it to the local Art Association for their Night Gallery show. It's exciting! I'm going to be dressed as a pirate with friends running around kidnapping people, and saying "YARR! To the brig with yee!" I enjoy acting.

And maybe this weekend once I get some things in order, I'll be sewing up some purses I've had in my mind's eye as of late. They have the potential to be awesome, but I need to go find some cords for the clutches I have in mind.

Pirates of the Good Ship RubberTree

Trying to make a point to post every Friday. So here's something I've been working on. It's already made in gray marker and paint and just needs a little more yet until I share it here. It's going to be in the LCAA's Night Gallery.

Samples

Happy Friday! A textless WIP of my pitchbook! I'm toning it between jobhunting. I've got the pages and a few character art bits left, so that's good! It makes me excited.

But now it's time to go for a jog!

Sketches.

Just a quick post as I want to make posting here more of a habit. This here is a sketch for a quick little video I'm doing in my spare time. Preliminary work of course. I will have to post my tone samples for my pitchbook as well later.

Flash Playing

And more Fanart I guess you can say. But I saw some playing cards that were on sale at their website that upset me.

I am such an easily amused person. But this is another work in progress through Flash 8 to warm my skills back up.

Cutesy-wootsie fanart

Yes! Fan art! What am I doing?
I was at otakon and made a decent amount for three days. It's amazing how people make a living off of doing that. -Not exactly for me though. I like working in studios and toiling on a show. I feel like a rockstar to 10 year olds. It's fun, though I should get back to more original arts soon enough and my own website which I have still yet to work on because of my freezing at the graphic making part. I'll get over it.

Long time no post

This is driving me insane. First I go and make a decent amount at Otakon selling fan art. And I'm now with commissions and work as usual that I don't get around to posting on here. *tragedy* And I like to blog on this as well.

So I found some squirrels on my laptop. I love the kind with the pretty tails and tufty ears.

And totally off topic but I feel so bad for my account seeing as I didn't realize it was recently taken over by Google. I am racked with guilt now. (not really, but enough to bother me slightly)

Time to get back to animating this short for "Baby Poetry" now. Since I last wrote here, I have been currently working for Magik World. Lovely little studio to freelance to. The man who runs it, Maciek Albrecht, is an amazing animator and definitely a person I look up to artistically.

Friday the 13th and a Drawing

Well, there's not much to talk about in the world of updates, really. Just something I'm putting together for a pitch book I'm working on for Image Comics and Tokyopop. Maybe some others if I feel like it.

I just did some Production Assistant work in NYC for a movie that prooved to be highly interesting. Other than that, just need to push myself farther.

I totally forgot that today was Friday the 13th...
